North Carolina is a Southern state in the United States of America on the Atlantic Seaboard. Although Raleigh is the capital, with its museums and historic neighbourhoods, the largest city is Charlotte, a verdant bustling metropolitan filled with skyscrapers. Chapel Hill is named the most liveable city in the US. It is a college town known for its outstanding free bus transit systems. Asheville is a great place to experience nightlife, festivals and visit local historic attractions. The coastal regions attract visitors with kite surfing, fishing, sun, sand and provide access to secluded barrier islands.
Outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing can be found in the Blue Ridge and Smokey mountains, along with a taste of Appalachian music and culture.
As Hog farms are North Carolina's number-one commodity, pork, bacon, and ham play an important role in state cuisine.
